Beeches earns third-straight DCUK title

Another successful edition of the Drum Corps United Kingdom British Drum Corps Championship took place Saturday, September 21, featuring a trio of competitive drum corps.

Beeches Performance Ensemble, an annual contender for British and European drum corps titles, took home the top prize at Butts Park Arena in Coventry, England, with a final score of 86.950. Beeches outscored the field of competitors by more than 10 points, and earned first place in all scoring captions. The corps’ 2024 production is titled, “The Lost City of Aurum.” 

Saturday’s championship marks Beeches’ third-consecutive DCUK title. The Birmingham corps has earned a top-three finish every season since 2017.

 

In a much closer race, Revolution edged out East Coast Elite for the season’s silver medal, scoring 76.550 to East Coast Elite’s 75.450 — a gap of 1.1 points. While East Coast Elite ranked ahead of Revolution in Total Music, and the two corps’ scores were close in Total Visual, Revolution’s Effect scores made a noticeable difference. 

At last season’s Finals event, the order of the two was flipped, with East Coast Elite taking second by a margin of 1.9 points over Revolution. Saturday’s silver medal marks Revolution’s highest finish and final score at the DCUK championship ever. Revolution also took home the day’s DrumLine Battle championship title. 

Beeches will represent the British drum corps contingent Saturday, September 28 at the European Drum Corps Championships, hosted at the home of Dutch soccer club FC Dordrecht in Dordrecht, The Netherlands. At the European championship, Beeches will be defending its first-place finish from the same event a year ago.
