Held in conjunction with the football matchup between Air Force and Navy, the Interservice Academy Drum & Bugle Corps Competition took place on Friday, Sept. 30 in Annapolis, Md.
The event featured the competitive performances of the drum and bugle corps of the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy in addition to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. As this competition only features the academy ensembles, the popular Commandant's Own U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, a professional group made up of enlisted Marines, did not take part in this event.
Earning first place and bragging rights on Friday was the U.S. Air Force Academy's "Flight of Sound" with a score of 90.10. The group based out of Colorado Springs, Colo. narrowly edged the U.S. Naval Academy ensemble (89.45) by more than half a point. The Coast Guard Academy's "Windjammers" scored 83.20.
Navy earned honors for High Brass and High Percussion. Air Force won the High Visual caption award.
It was a dual win for the Air Force this past weekend as the Air Force football team beat Navy in a thrilling overtime victory 35-34.
