Blue Devils B recently wrapped up a successful swing through eight California events on the 2024 DCI Tour.
The Concord, California corps went undefeated through those tour stops, and most recently earned an overall score of 73.700, good for the top mark by any Open Class corps to date.
Its tour, next, will head toward Indiana, with just a few weeks to spare until the corps’ first appearance at the DCI World Championships since 2022, when it took home the Open Class bronze medal.
“Going to Indiana is just a huge, sentimental cherry on top of the season,” Blue Devils B drum major Marco Duldulao said. “We’re so excited to just be there and perform.”
The decision to travel outside of the Golden State in 2024, in corps director Marvin Reed’s eyes, was all about ensuring that the time was right. The organization as a whole wanted to craft a summer touring plan that was fiscally responsible and that offered options to participating corps members.
“Everything is getting more expensive, so we wanted to make those little, smart decisions,” Reed said. “We want to make sure that we, as a Blue Devils organization, are always setting the members up for success and that down the road, we’ll still be here.”
One of those decisions was offering two types of touring experiences for the 2024 season. One tier is similar to the 2023 season — for those who would only like to participate in the California leg of the tour. The second for those interested in performing all the way through the DCI World Championships.
Giving the option for members and their families to decide what kind of drum corps experience they wanted was important to Reed.
“There’s joy and love behind everything we do,” Reed said. “So, whether you’re doing the California or the Indiana tour, it’s going to be a beautiful experience.”
Blue Devils B’s next performance is scheduled for the DCI Open Class World Championship Prelims, August 5 in Marion, Indiana.
