Do you know someone who belongs in the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame? Nominate them!

The nomination period is open now through Friday, February 18. How do you do it? Electronically submit a letter of nomination accompanied by up to two letters supporting that nomination. It’s that easy.

Hall of Fame nominees fall into two categories: Contemporary and Legacy. Contemporary covers people still actively involved in the activity. Thanks to a new rule change, Legacy now covers people with at least 20 years of involvement and/or have been out of the drum corps activity for at least 10 years.

“This rule change gives our Hall of Fame Committee much more flexibility in considering nominees for the ballot,” says Hall of Fame Chair Steve Rondinaro ('13). “Worthy candidates who perhaps don’t grab the headlines stand a better chance of making the ballot and possibly getting elected by way of the Legacy route, if the committee concurs.”

How it works

The six-member Hall of Fame working committee sets the ballot. They also determine who goes in which category. Committee members are all Hall of Famers and serve staggered six-year terms. They represent the teaching, judging, and administrative parts of the DCI activity.

  • Greg Orwoll ('08) and Jay Kennedy ('07) | Terms end 2023
  • Jim Elvord ('97) and Ken Turner ('18) | Terms end 2025
  • Shirley Dorritie ('09) and Tony DiCarlo ('20) | Terms end 2027

The chair votes as a tiebreaker only. Once the ballot is set it’s voted on by Hall of Fame members and DCI corps representatives. A candidate must be approved/voted by a minimum of 60 percent of the total ballots cast. Those elected will be formally inducted as part of the DCI World Championships in August.

Tips

  • Keep nomination letters short and to the point.
  • Don’t get lost in the details. Give the major reasons why you think your nominee deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Give real-life examples to support your case.
  • Accomplishments are important but character counts too. Give insight into who they are. What kind of positive leadership have they provided?
