Wayne Downey - DCI Hall of Fame
Wayne Downey
Inducted in 1991
Wayne Downey, the Blue Devils' brass instructor, has been teaching brass to all levels of corps for more than 30 years. He began with the Stockton Commodores where he taught kids what bugles were and, more importantly, how to enjoy life.
"Many of those kids, today, still reach out to Wayne in friendship and gratitude," Shirlee Whitcomb, former Drum Corps West coordinator, once said.
As part of the Blue Devils organization, Downey has led them to more high brass awards than any other drum corps.
"Wayne exemplifies the best of talent, education, commitment and personality
enduring over a long span of time. He is a cornerstone upon which Drum Corps International can truly depend," Whitcomb said.
